On The Water Tuition

Cruising is one of the greatest experiences you can have afloat. Especially around areas of the New Zealand coastline; e.g. the Marlborough Sounds, Bay of Islands or Auckland’s Gulf of Islands, the Hauraki Gulf. It can be so much more pleasurable if you:

• Have knowledge of your vessels capabilities.
• Pay due attention to its handling.
• Understand its engine and other mechanical functions
• Are aware of changing weather and sea conditions.
• Have knowledge of your cruising grounds.
• Are a careful navigator.
• Pay attention to personal safety.

All of the above can make for a great time on the water.

Seeking out secluded anchorages. Finding those out of the way spots up and down the coast adds to the special experience of cruising in our part of the world. And at the end of the day maneuvering your vessel in and out of anchorages, moorings or marinas can make or break the whole experience.

Chad can familiarise you with your own cruising grounds wherever you are in New Zealand. Especially Auckland’s Gulf of Islands, the Hauraki Gulf & NE Coast of the North Island

Your Tutor

Chad Thompson has enjoyed a lifetime of sailing. He has an extensive knowledge base to call upon for safe and pleasurable cruising.

Having raced and cruised the family’s classic yacht “Prize” forever, Chad’s professional time afloat commenced in 1999. He is now skipper for hire on the northeastern coast of the North Island, however always looks forward to going further afield; e.g. Marlborough Sounds for example.
